Sivasagar was once the capital of the mighty Ahom dynasty that ruled Assam for over 600 years. The numbers of Palaces, Temples are of those periods are still in the same manners. Jorhat was the last capital of Ahoms and the British set up tea gardens around Jorhat and made it the nerve center of their business. 

Majuli, among the largest river island in the World, allows you to gently contemplate mesmerizing landscapes of rice fields, water meadows and fish traps, meet the local Mising people and learn about neo-Vashnavite philosophy at one of Majuli’s 22 ancient Satras (Monasteries).

Destinations: Sivasagar, Jorhat Tea Gardens, Majuli River Island, Kaziranga National Park and Guwahati

Day 01: Dibrugarh/Jorhat Airport to Sivasagar (2 hours drive)

Arrive at Dibrugarh/Jorhat Airport and transfer to Hotel in Sivasagar. Late afternoon, visit the Central 33-meter-high Shivadol Mandir (temple), the tallest Shiva Temple in India, situated on the bank of Big Sivasagar Pond. If time permits also visit Assam Tai Museum which normally displays exhibits on Ahom history.  Overnight stay in Sivasagar.

Day 02: Around Sivasagar

On this day we will have sightseeing in Sivasagar. Our attractions will be: 

  1. Excursion trip to Charaidew, 28 km, the first capital of the Ahom dynasty. Attractions: The Maidams (similar to Pyramids) of the Ahom Royals. Back to Sivasagar.
  2. Kareng Ghar, this brick palace is a unique four-storey structure shaped like a sharpened, stepped pyramid.  Dating from 1752 it’s the last remnant of the Ahom Capital that preceded Sivasagar 
  3. Talatal Ghar, was the defence headquarter.
  4. Ranghar is a unique amphitheatre built during 1744-50. 
  5. Joy Dol (temple) and Joysagar pukhuri (Largest pond in the World)

Overnight in Sivasagar.

Day 03: Sivasagar to Jorhat (1 Hour drive)

Post breakfast move to Jorhat. Visit Tea gardens and if permissible, visit Tuklai Tea Research Centre.  By evening check in the hotel and overnight stay.

Day 04: Jorhat to Majuli river island

Morning move to Majuli after crossing river Brahmaputra by Ferry. Post lunch sightseeing. Attractions: The Satras (Monasteries), Mask cultures, Mishing Tribal villages etc. Night stay in a village in a Mishing traditional bamboo cottage.

Day 05: Majuli to Kaziranga National Park (4 hours with river crossing)

Post breakfast move to Kaziranga National Park and check in to the hotel. Evening visit the Kaziranga Orchid Park and experience the ethnic music and dances of different tribes and learn about orchids and local flora. Overnight at Kaziranga.

Day 06: In Kaziranga

Early morning Elephant back safari to Central or Western range. Post breakfast, visit the nearby village. Post lunch Jeep safari in a different range of Kaziranga National Park. By evening back to the hotel and overnight stay.

Day 07: Kaziranga to Guwahati (5 hours)

Post breakfast move to Guwahati and check into the hotel by afternoon. The evening is free for personal activities. Experience Brahmaputra river cruising and enjoy the mesmerizing sunset from the mighty Brahmaputra. Overnight stay in Guwahati. 

Day 08: Kamakhya temple and Guwahati Airport

Morning visit Kamakhya temple and then as per schedule move to Guwahati Airport or railway station for onward destinations.

Travel Tips

When travel to North-East India, guests are requested to follow the below mentioned points for hassle free journey.

  1. Always carry a small torchlight, umbrella in your bag. If you do journey during summer umbrella is must.
  2. Bring Sturdy comfortable shoes, Warm jackets during winter and cotton T shirts or shirts during Summer.
  3. Bring Toiletries, Insect repellent, Sunscreen.
  4. Note that Star category hotels are generally available mainly in Guwahati, Shillong. The remaining destinations, mainly remote ones, mostly have basic accommodations but neat and clean.
  5. For a comfort long distance journey, guests are requested to avail transportation by SUV cars such as Toyota Innova, Mahindra Xylo, Scorpio, Bolero etc.
  6. Changing foreign currencies are not mainly problem in Guwahati, Shillong or in some big towns. But maximum destinations do not have this facility so carry a number of Indian cash with you.

For  a foreign traveller, always carry your documents such as Visa etc with you anytime.

  • Kindly Note: Best time to avail tour in this region is from October  to May. From June to September, due to heavy rain, maximum destinations are not suitable to visit.
